How to Clean Leather Car Seats

Required Supplies: 

1. Leather cleaner, saddle soap, mild leather soap, or 1 part white vinegar/2 parts linseed oil solution
2. Microfiber towels
3. Interior brush (soft-bristled, NOT a stiff carpet brush)

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Take a look at your owner’s manual. It may have information regarding products to avoid when cleaning leather seats.
2. Vacuum the seats carefully to avoid scratching the leather.
3. Spray the leather cleaner on the microfiber towel rather than directly on the seats. Wipe the seats down to remove surface dirt and oils.
4. Spray cleaner onto the seats (unless you have perforated seats), and gently scrub the surface with the brush.
5. Use a clean and dry microfiber towel to wipe down the seats.

How to Clean Fabric Car Seats

Required Supplies: 

1. Cleaning solution spray designed for fabric (NOT an all-purpose cleaner)
2. Interior brush (soft or medium stiff bristles, NOT a stiff carpet brush)
3. Microfiber towels

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Thoroughly vacuum the seats. Pet owners may need to use a lint roller or special pet hair removal tool if necessary.
2. Open the doors and windows for ventilation. Lightly spray the cleaning solution onto an area you want to clean. You do not want to saturate the fabric, as this can lead to mildew.
3. Use the interior brush to massage the cleaning solution into the fabric.
4. Use the microfiber towel to wipe away any suds as they appear. You need to do this before the fabric dries so that the dirt is not pulled back into the fibers.
5. Once the upholstery has been cleaned to your liking, vacuum the seats once more to accelerate the drying process. Before you drive the car again, allow the seats to dry completely.
