How Does the GM and Honda Partnership Affect Cadillac?

GM and Honda Logos

If you keep up with the latest automotive news, you may have seen that Honda and General Motors recently entered into a joint partnership regarding the production of electric vehicles. The goal of this partnership is to make EVs more affordable and available for drivers around the world and to electrify more of the Honda and GM fleet in the next few years. This has enormous implications for drivers in Hamburg and beyond, both environmentally (more electric vehicles means less strain on the environment) and financially (the price of EVs will hopefully continue to lower). But what does this new partnership mean for Cadillac drivers? As a subsidiary of General Motors, Cadillac drivers will enjoy the fruits of this partnership with a new lineup of high-performance electric vehicles, starting right now with the new Cadillac LYRIQ! The team at Robert Basil Cadillac has more information on the new lineup of Honda and GM electric vehicles in the guide below.

Honda and GM Electric Vehicles

GM Ultium Battery

There are a few important milestones to the Honda and GM partnership. The first is 2023/2024, as the first fully-electric vehicles from Honda, Cadillac, and other brands become available. Honda is rolling out its first-ever EV, the Honda Prologue, in 2024, while Cadillac has introduced its electric luxury crossover, the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ.

The next milestone in the partnership is 2027, as Honda and GM begin to roll out a new lineup of affordable electric vehicles, powered by a new type of electric battery developed jointly by the two companies. These batteries are made of materials like silicon and lithium and run on the Ultium platform, which will result in safer, less expensive EVs.

The final milestone in the joint partnership is all the way in 2040, when Honda predicts to have a 100% emission-free lineup of vehicles! It’s unclear whether the General Motors brands–GMC, Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac–have the same emissions goals, but at the very least they will be dramatically reducing their carbon footprint with these new EVs.

The New Cadillac EV Lineup

As one of the four core branches of General Motors, Cadillac is a key part of the new partnership with Honda. Cadillac has ambitious plans to unveil five new electric vehicles by 2025 that run on the new jointly-developed battery platform:

  • Cadillac LYRIQ: A streamlined luxury crossover SUV with an electric range of over 300 miles
  • Cadillac Escalade EV: The crowd-favorite full-size SUV gets an electric upgrade with a range of 400 miles and plenty of room inside the cabin
  • Cadillac Celestiq: A sleek luxury sedan full of the latest next-generation technology, such as UltraCruise hands-free driving and a 55-inch diagonal LED infotainment display
  • Cadillac Optiq: A compact luxury crossover SUV along the lines of the Cadillac XT4
  • Cadillac Symboliq: The final new entry to hit the East Aurora roads, a larger mid-size crossover SUV along the lines of the Cadillac XT5
