When was Cadillac Founded?

The year Cadillac was founded was 1902. Henry Leland founded Cadillac way back in 1902, and because the brand was founded in Detroit, Leland named the brand after Detroit’s founder: Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. One of Cadillac’s biggest innovations was the concept of interchangeable auto parts. This allowed the brand far more flexibility and versatility than others, and the industry took notice. Cadillac was the first American car to win the Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. After this success, they adopted the slogan of “Standard of the World.”

What was the First Cadillac Model?

You might know about models like the Escalade and XT6, but what was the very first Cadillac in history? In 1903, the Cadillac Roundabout made its debut. This 2-seat “horseless carriage” was built with a single-cylinder engine that generated 10 hp. Upon its introduction at the 1903 New York Auto Show, the Roundabout was priced at $850. Later, it was renamed the “Model A” and the “Model B” came out soon thereafter in 1904.

What is the Cadillac Logo?

Not only was the Cadillac brand named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, but the logo also owes its design to the founder’s coat of arms. Over the past 100 years, the logo has gone through over 30 changes to sharpen and refine the design.

• 1906: The crest features two parts: a coat and a shield. This design featured birds, or “merlettes,” that aren’t found on the current logo.
• 1920: The badge introduced a tulip-bulb wreath with a 9-point crown, which would eventually turn into a 7-point crown until 1925.
• 1957: The crest became longer and wider, minimizing the crown symbol within the logo design.

• 1963: Since 1963, the Cadillac logo went into its final phase and has not undergone any significant changes to the present day.

Cadillac Escalade History Per Generation

• First Generation (1999 – 2002): So, when was the Cadillac Escalade first made? Fearing the growing hegemony of the Lincoln Navigator, the Escalade was rushed through the design process to reach East Aurora area dealerships quickly, in the year 1999. Essentially little more than a badge-engineered GMC Yukon Denali, the SUV’s aesthetics were similar to the Denali and the final vehicle was smaller than the Navigator.
• Second Generation (2002 – 2007): Now that we know where the Escalade came from, it’s easier to understand where it was going. Cadillac delayed the Escalade’s switch to the GMT820 chassis until February 2001 as a 2002 model. Cadillac unveiled the 2002 model year Escalade in August 2000 at Pebble Beach.
• Third Generation (2007 – 2015): The normal Escalade was again joined by a stretched ESV version as well as a new EXT sport utility truck. The 2007 Escalade was the official vehicle of Super Bowl XL, with MVP Hines Ward being awarded one of the first Escalades ever produced.
• Fourth Generation (2015 – 2021): Cadillac unveiled the fourth generation of Escalades and Escalade ESVs at a star-studded event in New York City, just nearly a month after GM unveiled their next-generation SUVs from Chevrolet and GMC. The Escalade was planned to switch to the unibody Lambda platform but was quickly nixed due to customer aversion.
• Fifth Generation (2021 – Current Day): The fifth generation Escalade debuted on February 4, 2020, in Beverly Hills, California, for the 2021 model year, with sales commencing in the fall of 2020. Although production of the 2021 Escalade was pushed back due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic, GM was deadset on getting the latest model to West Seneca area dealerships and beyond by the established date.
